Mtskheta tour Full Description:

For this half-day tour is better to choose the start time in the first part of the day. Your tour will start from the pickup location, chosen by you in Tbilisi. Before you will get to Mcketa the first stop place will be the Jvari monastery(VI century).

The monastery is located on the top of a rocky mountain. From the yard of the monastery, there is an amazing view of the city. like on the palm of your hand you can see the confluence of two rivers Mtkvari and Aragvi. One of the most popular place to take memorable pictures. Before the walking tour in the city, you will visit Bebristsikhe castle and Shiomghvime.

Bebristsikhe is a medieval fortress not far from the center. There is a ruins of old walls, but interesting place with different views.  What about Shiomghvime is a monastery complex founded by one of the Assyrian fathers Shio. The complex is located at the foot of a cliff and the access road to it runs through the beautiful landscape.

The history of Mtsketa begins before our era and is a place of fundamental religious and cultural significance for the history of Georgia. It was the first capital of the Kingdom of Kartli before king Vakhtang Gorgasali founded Tbilisi. Located as a crossroad connecting the Silk Road and various civilizations. From this place, Saint Nino began to spread Christianity in Georgia. Due to its antiquity and significance, many legends and historical facts are associated with the city. The restoration was carried out on the basis of architectural descriptions mentioned in old records.

Svetitskhoveli cathedral (XI century) is one of the four greatest Cathedrals (Oshki, Bagrati Temple, Alaverdi). It is the largest historic church complex in Georgia among that that survived. It is known as the place where the robe of Christ is buried. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After the walking tour, we will return to the drop-off location in Tbilisi. If you wish, you can have lunch in a Georgian restaurant.
