With this delicious food, you will continue your journey. An optional first you will visit a Bodbe monastery near Sighnaghi.
Bodbe monastery – The monastery now functions as a nunnery and is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Georgia, due to its association with St. Nino, the 4th-century female missionary of Georgians. Originally built in the 9th century, it has been significantly remodeled, especially in the 17th century. After the Bodbe monastery, you will visit Sighnaghi – the “city of love”.
Sighnaghi as a settlement was first mentioned in sources in the first half of the 18th century. The city is located on a high hill overlooking the expanses of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Ranges. The city is surrounded by a 4 km wall which gives ancient charm to the city. It is possible to walk on the wall and take memorable pictures.
Lunchtime in Kvareli near a beautiful lake. After lunch, it’s time for wine tasting. You will visit two big wine factories – “Kindzmarauli Corporation ” and ” Khareba winery“. You will taste 6 sorts of wine and have a short excursion in factories by local guides.
“Kindzmarauli Corporation” is located on the territory of the historic Kvareli Fortress and 70% of the corporation’s vineyards are located in the Kindzmarauli microzone.
The unique wine cellar and tourist complex of “Khareba winery” is built on the edge of Alazani Valley. The cave, carved into the Caucasus rock massif, was opened in 1962. Throughout the year, the cave temperature ranges from 12-16 ° C, which creates an ideal environment for wine storage and aging.
There are also 2 sights for visiting along a route. Nekresi monastery and Gremi castle. After that, you will return to Tbilisi through the beautiful Gombori pass.
Nekresi monastery is a small-sized basilica located on the hill (IV century) – is the oldest in Georgia among the churches that survived nowadays.
Gremi Complex – a monument of Georgian architecture, located in the village of Gremi. It was built by King Levan of Kakheti in 1565. The painting was completed in 1577.
